So why I am I taking up this challenge?
I've been lucky to meet some incredible people over the last 7 years running the YT - one of these amazing people is Liz Southall, an inspirational woman who runs RedShift Radio and is at the heart of nearly every community event that I know about in Nantwich, and probably a lot more too!
She has a never say never attitude to helping others and she has inspired me to take up the challenge (alongside her!) of climbing Kilimanjaro and raising money for not one but FOUR great local charities.
If I channel some of that energy into getting fit (I've not done any fitness work in 20 years!), hosting a few great events and hopefully gaining support from a few of you then I believe we can reach our goal in this challenge. In the run up to the big climb I will also be climbing Snowdon three times, completing the Sandstone Trial (32 miles in a day) and I'm also doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in late March.
Climbing Kili has been at the top of my bucket list for as long as I can remember but doing it for the following great causes makes it really worthwhile:
CRY for Matthew - 12 young people aweek, aged 14-35, die from undiagnosed heart defects and in 2012 Matthew Dewhirst became one of those statistics. I am raising funds to screen young people in Cheshire and Shropshire for heart defects especially those participating in competitive sports - Each screening costs £50 and your donation could help save the life of one or more young person - Please help!
The Wingate Centre - located inWrenbury, the centre provides amazing support and life enriching opportunities for young people with all levels of physical and learning disability or who are otherwise disadvantaged. Both residential or day guests are given the opportunity to develop life skills, self-confidence and make friends in a unique and safe environment they also build up strength, improve social skills and develop self-esteem through achievement, encouragement and recognition. The centre needs to generate £300,000 pa to keep operating so please help support this unique Centre.
Mid Cheshire HospitalCharity - Their aim is to provide additional healthcare facilities to families and children over and above that available via the NHS. It fundraises for equipment and is currently raising funds to support Dementia Care at Leighton Hospital (Crewe). It aims to raise funds to provide experiential enhancements to their elderly care unit and wards alongside the development of a dementia friendly garden. Please support this cause - every little helps!
RedShift Radio - A non-profit making hub and local radio station that provides networking, support and local opportunities through their business hub and radio platform. It offers work experience, volunteer opportunities, business start-up coaching to all community groups, young people and organisations across Crewe, Nantwich and surrounding towns and villages. So far over 50 young people have started their careers with Redshift and progressed through to college, university and into employment in a career that they could only have dreamed of - Please give generously to support this fantastic group of people.
Thank you for your support!
