I'm trying to raise at least £3,500 for four local Charities and community groups based in South Cheshire - 100% of all donations received will go directly to these Groups - in fact I am also going to add an extra 5% of all funds raised to the total pledged by you so this is a real opportunity for you to help me to help these groups! Don't be shy dig deep into your pockets I will be enormously grateful and so will our local community.
So who are these local groups and why am I helping?
I moved to Hough, near Nantwich, nearly 25 years ago with my wife and three children and for sixteen years have been a Parish Councillor. I have been lucky as over that time I have been able to watch our community thrive and prosper and have seen my children grow up to be well rounded, caring and healthy individuals. I want to be able to give those same opportunities to others, that are perhaps less fortunate, hence my support for these groups.
When I reached the big 50 I made a commitment to doing something that would enable me to give something back to the community that had so warmly welcomed us a few years earlier. It took 10 years for fate to play its part - I read an article two months ago in the 'Gazette' that ticked all the boxes so I said why not! A series of very testing UK training treks followed by a climb up the biggest free standing mountain in the world - Mount Kilimanjaro 5985m (19,340ft) higher than Everest base camp so not for the unfit, feint or weak hearted!
I have never been a 'trekker' so to tackle some of the planned training events, Yorkshire 3 peaks 39km (April 2017), Snowden (May 2017), Sandstone trail 56km (July 2017), Ben Nevis (July 2017) along with a couple of other trips up Scafell Pike and a return to Snowden in-between is in itself a challenge only to be surmounted by Kilimanjaro in September.
As an aside and to kick start this adventure Catherine, my wife, bought me a 12 month gym membership for my birthday ! All I can do is ask for your support to help me raise as much money as possible to support these local groups
CRY for Matthew - 12 young people a week die from undiagnosed heart defects and in 2012 Matthew Dewhirst became one of those statistics. I am raising funds to screen young people in Cheshire and Shropshire for heart defects especially those participating in competitive sports - Each screening costs £50 and your donation could help save the life of one or more young person - Please help.
The Wingate Centre - located in Wrenbury, provides amazing support and life enriching opportunities for young people with all levels of physical and learning disability or who are otherwise disadvantaged. Both residential or day guests are given the opportunity to develop life skills, self-confidence and make friends in a unique and safe environment they also build up strength, improve social skills and develop self-esteem through achievement, encouragement and recognition. The centre needs to generate £300,000 pa to keep operating so please help support this unique Centre.
Mid Cheshire Hospital Charity - Their aim is to provide additional healthcare facilities to families and children over and above that available via the NHS. It fundraises for equipment and is currently raising funds to support Dementia Care at Leighton Hospital (Crewe). It aims to raise funds to provide experiential enhancements to their elderly care unit and wards alongside the development of a dementia friendly garden. Please support this cause - every little helps!
RedShift - A non-profit making hub and local radio station that provides networking, support and local opportunities through their business hub and radio platform. It offers work experience, volunteer opportunities, business start-up coaching to all community groups, young people and organisations across Crewe, Nantwich and surrounding towns and villages.
